Ken grew up in Jackson and has always been interested in local history. He is the grandson of James B. Foote of Consumers Power fame. After high school, he worked for Central Advertising Company learning the sign painting trade. Drafted in 1958, his Army service was in Oklahoma and Korea. He joined the Summit Township Fire Department as a volunteer and member of the dive team in 1965 and served for 30 years. In 1970 he started Hand in Hand Graphics doing commercial art, screen printing and production spray painting. In 1976 he switched his interest to the restoration and decoration of vintage fire apparatus and formed Hand in Hand Restoration. That work continues to this day. He has held seminars from coast to coast teaching the style of gold leaf decoration used on fire apparatus and has restorations in a number of museums around the country. He volunteers his talent to help restore Interurban cars and artifacts.
