Description

James Berry Foote was the engineering wizard of the family, and along with his brother W.A. Foote, the financial wizard of the family, was one of the first to introduce electric street lighting in the City of Jackson. That experience eventually led to the installation of the infrastructure needed to supply electric street cars to the city. Eventually Jackson Electric Light Works would expand around central Michigan with not only lights, but the infrastructure necessary for the installation of street cars in the city. While electric street cars have disappered, J.B. Foote's legacy remains as Jackson Electric Light Works evolved into what is now Consumers Energy.
