Matt McKernan is a lifelong Chelsea-area resident with deep roots in the community and a strong commitment to preserving its history and future. His family has called the Chelsea area home for more than 140 years, fostering a lasting appreciation for the region’s heritage, storytelling, and sense of place—values that closely align with the mission of The Lost Railway Museum.
Professionally, Matt leads McKernan Realty Group with Reinhart Realtors, where he brings over a decade of experience in real estate sales, business development, marketing, and strategic planning. His career highlights include building and leading a high-performing team, managing complex transactions, and creating long-term growth strategies grounded in community relationships. His background provides practical expertise in finance, marketing, budgeting, sponsorship development, and organizational strategy.
Matt currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Chelsea Community Foundation, is Vice President and incoming President of the Chelsea Rotary Club, and is a Chelsea Chamber of Commerce Ambassador. He is also actively involved with The Barn Sanctuary, a local nonprofit dedicated to the compassionate and ethical treatment of farm animals. Across these roles, Matt is known for his collaborative leadership style, ability to think creatively, and focus on sustainable, mission-driven growth.
On the board of The Lost Railway Museum, Matt brings a perspective centered on community engagement, fundraising strategy, and long-term visibility. He is particularly passionate about helping organizations tell their story in ways that resonate with both longtime residents and future generations, ensuring that local history remains accessible, relevant, and well-supported.
