A Museum by nature often simply evolves out of volunteerism. That is certainly the case for the Lost Railway Museum where nearly 200 volunteers could envision the current building looking a lot better than it has for years. Similarly, its route along Michigan Avenue next door to a property that formerly housed an interurban power station provided a lot of people the incentive to pitch in. Landscapers, builders, painters; and ultimately photographers became involved to clear a location for the housing of multiple interurban cars.

Thus, the Lost Railway Museum was born, and a whole lot of activity began, bringing in cars and artifacts to tell the story of the interurban railway in Michigan. While the building has  become an attractive asset to the community, much remains in restoring the individual interurban cars. As well, the museum can always use docents, administrative assistants, and skilled tradesmen who can assist in returning the individual cars to their previous majesty.
